Full Staff Directory

All submitted work must be original, properly credited and completed without unauthorized assistance. This includes copying, using unauthorized notes or technology such as AI (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, etc.) on assessments, falsifying work, or plagiarizing (using another's words or ideas without proper attribution). When students use someone else's words directly, they must use quotation marks and cite the source appropriately. When students paraphrase a source or rely on information that is not common knowledge, they must cite that source appropriately, as well. Questions about finding, using and citing sources can be directed to student’s teachers and the school librarian.

Academic dishonesty will be logged and may result in a zero on the assessment and further disciplinary action at the teacher's and administration's discretion. (See Conduct and Discipline section below for clarification.)

To graduate from Freeport High School, students must earn 20 credits. Most year-long courses count as one credit and semester-long courses count as 0.5 credit. Students must earn a minimum of 70% to receive credit for a course. Students are expected to earn a minimum of six credits each year. The Honor Roll is published twice a year. To qualify, students must be enrolled in a minimum of six courses with no more than one on a pass/fail basis, and must have no incomplete grades.

• High Honors: All grades 93 or above.
• Honors: All grades 85 or above.

Freeport High School does not rank students by GPA. Instead, students are recognized for their level of academic achievement at graduation. See the FHS Program of Studies for details.

PowerSchool is our web-based student information portal where students and families can get up-to-date information about student attendance, grades and academic progress. For information on how set up an account please visit the FHS website.

Region 10 programs are designed for all students who are serious about gaining new skills and knowledge through applied learning. These classes are designed for career bound and college (post-secondary) bound students and are an extension of their high school schedule. Region 10 classes count toward FHS graduation requirements, similar to any other FHS course. Region 10 programs combine classroom theory and instruction, extensive labs, shop projects and community-based internships to give students real life experience towards a career path. Students are bussed to and from Region 10 from FHS. Interested students should see their school counselor to arrange a visit and complete an application.

Callback System

Academic support is a key feature of the daily 45-minute Advisory block. Teachers use this time to call back students who need extra help or need to make up work; students can also request a callback from a teacher. Students receive an email when called back and attendance is mandatory. (See Conduct and Discipline section below for clarification.)

Google Classroom

All teachers use Google Classroom as a portal to distribute and collect digital materials and assignments. Many clubs and other student groups also use Google Classroom to communicate with members and distribute resources.

Study Hall

General study halls take place in the cafeteria or in the chorus room. Students will use study hall time productively for homework, research, guidance, and school-related matters. Additionally students can access the library during this time with permission from the study hall teacher and the librarian. Seniors and juniors with open campus privileges may leave during study hall; all other students must remain on campus. An excused dismissal during study hall requires parent permission for a scheduled appointment.

Guided Study Hall

Ninth-grade students are placed in small-group Guided Study Halls with a teacher in that teacher's classroom. Additionally, students can access the library during this time with permission from the study hall teacher and the librarian.

Falcon Labs

Falcon Labs are small, focused study classes where students receive support across all academic subjects, particularly in executive functioning, reading, writing, math, and science. Teachers help students with classroom assignments and assessment preparation. Students are placed in Falcon Labs for a minimum of four weeks and placement is dependent on progress and grades in all classes. Students have the option of shifting to a general study hall if they have demonstrated progress and have the support of their teachers to leave this intervention class. Any student (or parent of a student) in a general study hall or guided study hall can request to be placed in a Falcon Lab if there is space and the student is looking for a more structured and supported study environment.

Success Block

Teachers are in their classrooms from 2:20 to 2:30 every day to support students with last-minute questions before students leave for the day. Students will also be able to retrieve their personal electronic devices at this time. (See Personal Electronic Device Procedures)

Regular and punctual attendance is essential to student academic success. Students are responsible for attending all classes and making up any work missed during an absence.

Parents/guardians must call 865-4706 x7000 on the morning of any absence. Absences not confirmed within 48 hours are marked unexcused. Maine State law requires school attendance and specifies that the State of Maine and the school alone have the legal responsibility to establish attendance guidelines.

Maine statute prohibits parents from allowing students to remain out of school with the following exceptions:

• Personal illness
• An appointment with a health professional that must be made during the regular school day
• Observance of a recognized religious holiday when the observance is required during the regular school day
• Family emergency
• A planned absence for a personal or educational purpose that has been approved
• Special circumstances such as hospitalization or homelessness

Students may be excused for school activities, including field trips, assemblies, and in-school college/military visits. 

Unexcused absences include:

• Truancy or oversleeping
• Missed school bus
• Unapproved trips 
• Shopping 
• Hunting or fishing
• Birthdays or other celebrations
• Gainful employment

Note: The school will not accept self-written excuses from students who are 18 unless they can document that they are no longer under parental/guardian supervision.

An unexcused absence from school or from an individual class may result in disciplinary action, including loss of privileges, such as open campus. (See Conduct and Discipline section below for clarification.)

Transportation is provided for all students to and from school. Family/caregivers and students who choose to provide their own transportation accept full responsibility for arriving on time. The common reasons for tardiness (e.g. oversleeping, missing the bus, personal transportation issues) are considered unexcused.

Tardy detention thresholds:

• 3 tardies → after-school detention assigned
• 6, 9, and every subsequent tardy → additional detention
• 20+ minutes late (unexcused) → automatic 1-hour detention

Students with Open Campus Privileges will incur additional consequences.

Every effort should be made to schedule college visits, interviews, and family vacations during school vacation periods. If students anticipate an absence of more than a single full day, obtain a Request for Extended Absence Form from the main office before the absence. These absences may or may not be excused depending on circumstances. Any absences may affect co-curricular eligibility or have other consequences.

Teachers are not required or expected to prepare assignments, plan alternative assignments, or to provide remote/virtual learning options prior to or during the absence. Students are responsible for making up all missed assignments. It is important to note that it is not possible to recreate the classroom learning experience of missed discussions, labs, and lectures.

Reports, papers or projects that would become due during the period of absence must be submitted to the teacher prior to the absence or be subject to grade reduction.

Field trips are part of the school program and are not considered absences. It is the student’s responsibility to submit a permission slip with parental signature PRIOR to the field trip. Students attending field trips must see their classroom teachers in order to receive any missed assignments caused by the field trip.  Any missed assignments must be made up the following day.  Teachers reserve the right to deny a student from attending a field trip if the student is not in good academic standing. Students going on field trips are subject to FHS rules as well as the rules and policies of the institution they are visiting.

The following makeup rules apply across all absence types:

• Excused or extended absences: Students are expected to complete all missed work. The timeline is at each teacher's discretion.
• Unexcused absences: There is no expectation that missed work can be made up.
• Late arrivals: Students will submit all work due and complete missed assessments by the end of that day.
• Early dismissals: Students submit all work due and complete missed assessments the day they return.
• Suspensions: Students are expected to take materials home and contact teachers for assignments. Students will have a reasonable period to make up assessments upon return.

For the safety of students, dismissal will only be permitted to the parent(s), guardian(s), and the individual(s) listed as emergency contacts. If someone else will be picking up the student, the parent/guardian must provide their name and the individual will be required to show identification at the time of pick up. Students who are 18 and above and live at home also require parental or guardian permission for dismissal.

For appointment-related dismissals, provide physical or electronic documentation from the student’s provider to the main office within three school days. If the appointment is sensitive, documentation can be shared directly with school administration. All physical documentation is shredded immediately after the absence is approved.

During regular school hours (7:40 AM – 2:30 PM), all students must enter and exit through the main entrance. The cafeteria entrance may be used during bus drop-off and pick-up and when Region 10 students return to FHS.. Students in the building after 2:40 PM must be attending a school function or be supervised by a staff member. Visitors are not permitted during school hours.

The Student Services program actively supports the academic, emotional, and social development of all students in grades 9–12. Counselors and Social Workers provide services responsive to academic, social, and emotional needs; help students understand themselves and plan for their future; and coordinate early intervention for at-risk students. See the FHS Program of Studies for more information.

Advisory supports academic and personal growth by providing students with a sense of connectedness to FHS. Advisors are assigned by grade level and the same small group of students will remain with their advisor throughout high school. Typical activities during advisory may include meeting with clubs, going to callbacks, attending open gym/track, or attending school wide events.

Freeport High School is committed to a focused learning environment that supports students' social and emotional well-being. In accordance with Maine State law and RSU5 School Board Policy JICJ, students may not carry, access, or use personal cell phones, smartwatches, or other internet-connected devices from the starting bell through dismissal, except as noted below.

Any device brought to school must be powered off before the starting bell and stored for the day in one of the approved locations below.

Approved Storage Locations

Students will store their device in one of the following ways:

1. Period 1/2 Class Lockers: Most students will place their phone, smartwatch, or other personal electronic device in a locker in their Period 1/2 class. Devices stored in Period 1/2 lockers will be locked by the teacher and picked up during the Success Block from 2:20 - 2:30.
2. Main Office Lockers: Students with open campus privileges, arriving late, or  with planned dismissals including athletic dismissals will store their device in main office lockers. Devices stored in the office will also be picked up during the success block from 2:20 - 2:30. 
3. Region 10 Students: Students returning to FHS from Region 10 will store their devices in a locker upon arriving in the cafeteria for lunch. These devices will be picked up during success block from 2:20 - 2:30

Communication During the School Day

All classrooms and offices have landline phones. If a student needs to contact home during the school day, they should ask a teacher, advisor, or office staff member for assistance. Parents and guardians contact the main office to communicate with students during the school day. If a student is ill, they must report to the nurse’s office.

In the event of a school emergency, the school or district will communicate with parents/guardians as promptly as possible in accordance with the district’s Emergency Management Plan.

Exceptions

Exceptions may be granted (per RSU5 board Policy JICJ) when required for:

• Monitoring or managing a health condition in accordance with a healthcare provider’s order and the student’s individual health plan;
• Implementation of a student’s IEP;
• An emergency situation authorized by the building administrator.

Any approved exception must be documented and communicated to the appropriate staff members.

Headphones, Earbuds, and Smartwatches

• Headphones and earbuds must be off and put away during the school day unless explicitly permitted by a staff member for an approved academic or accommodation-related purpose.
• Smartwatches must be powered off and stored with the student’s phone unless an exception has been approved. Smartwatches may not be worn during the school day.

Violations and Progressive Consequences

Violations include, but are not limited to, carrying, wearing, accessing, or using a phone, smartwatch, or other personal electronic device during the school day, or failing to store the device in an approved location.

Responsibility for personal devices

The district is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal cell phones, smartwatches, or other personal electronic devices brought to school or onto school property, including school buses, parking lots, athletic fields, and other school facilities.

FHS offers a wide range of student clubs and student government opportunities. Most clubs meet during advisory to make it possible for everyone to participate..

There are clubs for many different interests, including visual and performing arts, academics, service, reading, writing, crafting, activism, and gaming. There are also numerous student leadership groups. This list shows what was offered in 2025-2026. You will learn more about the current year’s offerings by attending the club fair, listening to the daily announcements, and visiting the school’s website.

There is financial assistance available for all school related activities and students needing support with basic needs. Please use this link to request assistance. For assistance with Advanced Placement (AP) course exam fees, please use this form.

All FHS students are eligible for a free breakfast and a free lunch. Additional food and beverages are available for purchase.  Families can add money to student accounts via the MySchoolBucks portal found on the district's school nutrition web page. 

Breakfast is served from 7:15 to 7:40. The cafeteria is open for a la carte service from 7:50 - 8:45 for students with late arrival privileges. There are three lunch times as explained below. All students need to be prepared to enter their four digit lunch code at the register for breakfast and lunch.

FHS has three lunch periods (1st, 2nd, 3rd) assigned based on the student’s Period 6/7 teacher. Students may have different lunch periods on Maroon and White days.

1st lunch: 11:15- 11:40 | Period 6/7 meets 11:45 - 1:00

2nd lunch: 11:55 - 12:20 | Period 6 meets 11:20 - 11:55, Period 7 meets from 12:25 - 1:00

3rd lunch: 12:35 - 1:00 | Period 6/7 meets 11:20 - 12:35

All students must eat in the cafeteria unless using the library or meeting with a teacher. Students must dispose of trash/recycling and return all trays, plates, and utensils by the end of the lunch period. Note: eating is not permitted in the library.

Students are expected to dress in a manner that is presentable, appropriate, and respectful of the school environment. Pants, shorts, skirts, shirts, and dresses must provide full coverage of the chest, pelvic/groin area, and buttocks with non-see-through material. Students are required to wear shoes or other foot gear while at school or participating in school-sponsored co-curricular activities.

The following attire is prohibited:

• Clothing displaying vulgar language, hate speech, or derogatory symbols (e.g., swastikas, Confederate flags)
• Clothing referencing tobacco, alcohol, drugs, weapons, sexual content, or violence
• Exposed underwear

FHS Faculty and Administration determine appropriateness of student attire. Students may be asked to change immediately. If a change of clothes is not available, the student may be sent home (with parent/guardian knowledge only). Refusal to comply results in disciplinary action.

The expectation is that students must remain in their class for the full period.  If a student needs to leave any class, they must get teacher permission and use Orange Passes, our digital hall pass system. All academic spaces allow only one student out at any time. This includes advisory, study halls, Falcon Labs, and guided study halls. Depending on the classroom, students will sign out using a classroom device or their own school-issued device. Teachers will communicate their specific sign-out procedures at the start of the year. Failure to use Orange Passes will result in disciplinary action. (See Conduct and Discipline section below for clarification.)

The FHS Library is open during school hours and students are welcome to visit for books, assistance, printing, or other needs before school or during their study halls. The library is a peaceful academic space with areas for small study groups, supplies for quiet crafting, and access to chargers and school supplies. 

The library is open during the 1st and 3rd lunch periods, though there is no eating permitted. Ask your advisor to sign you up for one of the limited spots during advisory.

Students in grades 10-12 may request to have their study halls in the library: the librarian or school counselors can assist with this.

We have access to many online resources, including audiobooks, ebooks, newspapers, magazines, and databases of all kinds. Check out the library website for more information. Access the school library catalog here. If the FHS library does not have the book or information you need, we will track it down for you!

Announcements are made during the first five minutes of Advisory each day. All PA announcements must be submitted to and approved by the main office. Posting notices or flyers requires principal approval. Unauthorized or inappropriate postings will be removed.

Lockers are assigned annually upon request in the main office. Students are responsible for the condition of their locker and will be charged for damage. Do not mark lockers or put stickers on them. Do not share lockers — students are responsible for all contents.

Lockers are school property and may be opened, inspected, or searched at any time without prior notice. Use only the school-provided lock; non-school locks may be removed and destroyed, and the school is not liable for damage.

Assemblies are scheduled throughout the school year for a variety of purposes. Students are expected to adhere to the following expectations at assemblies: 

• Be on time 
• Sit with their class in assigned sections/seats 
• Be respectful and attentive to all participants and speakers 
• Remain in assemblies until the program ends and students are dismissed 
• Food or drinks are NOT allowed in the FPAC or gymnasium

High school dances give students a chance to build school spirit, and create shared memories outside the classroom. A dance reminds students that belonging matters just as much as achievement. FHS and student organizations host multiple dances throughout the year and details about dates, times and rules are communicated in the weeks prior to each event.

All students and staff are expected to show appropriate respect during the daily Pledge. No talking during the Pledge.

Weather or other emergency cancellations are announced on local radio and television stations. RSU5 also uses ReachMyTeach (automated phone calls and text messages) to notify families.

Parking on school grounds is a privilege. All parking lots on school property are under school supervision, and students have no expectation of privacy in school parking facilities. Vehicles may be searched if there is reasonable suspicion to do so.

The speed limit is 15 MPH on all school grounds. Seniors park in the senior lot and must register their vehicle and display a parking tag. Parking spots in the senior lot are limited and not guaranteed. Applications are emailed in the summer prior to senior year.

Senior Parking Rules:

• Display numbered parking tag visibly at all times.
• Park only in designated student parking lots.
• Park properly between the lines.
• Loitering in the parking area is prohibited.
• Students must observe all safety regulations as established by the State of Maine and local ordinances related to the safe operation of a vehicle.
• Any violation of school rules, including those involving their vehicle, may result in revocation of parking privileges on school property and other consequences
• If school administrators have a reasonable suspicion that a vehicle which a student has parked at school contains evidence that the student has or is violating a federal/state law and/or there is a substantial threat to the welfare and safety of the schools, law enforcement authorities will be requested to render assistance in accordance with RSU 5 Board policy KLG and KLG-R.
• Unauthorized vehicles are subject to towing at the owner's expense.

To drive themselves to a school-related activity, students need administrative approval and a signed parent/guardian permission form. Students may not transport other students without written permission from the school, a parent/guardian, and the passenger's parent/guardian. The school assumes no responsibility for students who leave with another student without permission.

Students attending Region 10 programs may drive to vocational programs with approval from both Region 10 and FHS administration. Begin the approval process by completing a form at Region 10. Once approved, students must check out and check in at the FHS main office whenever they leave or return.

FHS policy allows approved student drivers to transport one other student with signed permission from both families and administrative approval. Failure to follow this policy may result in loss of driving privileges. Permission forms to transport additional students are available in the main office.

The school bus is an extension of the classroom. Once students board the bus, they are the responsibility of the school until they are delivered to their regular stop at the end of the day. Students must follow all school rules on the bus. Serious disciplinary issues may result in suspension of bus riding privileges, at which point parents/guardians are responsible for providing transportation. (See Conduct & Discipline section for more specifics.)

Open campus  privileges are available to juniors and seniors who meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Juniors enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits. Seniors in a minimum of 5 credits.
• An overall average of 85 or higher in content-area grades.
• Passing all classes 
• A Habits of Work rating of 2 in every class.
• In good standing 

For first-semester eligibility, academic standing is evaluated using the prior spring semester grades, attendance and discipline history.

A student is considered in good standing when they have no unresolved discipline issues, no unexcused absences/tardies in excess of handbook limits, and no outstanding debts to the school. Specific academic thresholds for individual programs are noted in those sections.

Eligible juniors and seniors may leave campus during study halls, lunch, or a combination of both during periods 3/4 or 6/7. For example, a senior with a period 6/7 study hall may sign out at the start of lunch and sign in at the end of period 7.

Once granted, in order to maintain Open Campus Privileges, students must adhere to the following guidelines:: 

• Follow sign in/out procedures through the main office using designated exits only and leave the building. 
• Comply with attendance policies, including tardies
• Serve assigned detentions
• Follow the Code of Conduct. A student in violation of RSU5 policies on tobacco/drugs/alcohol, bullying/harassment, or weapons/violence may have privileges revoked for the remainder of the school year.
• Clear all outstanding school debts
• Open campus students must be present for all callbacks, class meetings, assemblies, grade-level advisory events, and special speakers
• Maintain academic eligibility
• Maintain a good driving record on and off of school grounds.
• Administrators or parents/guardians can remove privileges at any time (See Conduct & Discipline section for more specifics.) 

The Request for Open Campus form is emailed to all junior and senior parents over the summer and must be completed by parents prior to the start of the school year. Students will be notified by email whether or not they qualify for open campus.

The RSU5 Code of Conduct (Policy JIC) establishes our expectations for student behavior and provides the framework for a safe, orderly, and respectful learning environment. The administration has authority to establish its own guidelines within the district code. 

The following expectations for student behavior are fundamental to a safe, orderly and respectful environment in our schools. Each student should: 

1. Be courteous to fellow students, staff and visitors. 

2. Respect the rights and privileges of other students and school staff. 

3. Obey all Board policies and school rules governing student conduct. 

4. Follow directions from school staff. 

5. Cooperate with staff in maintaining school safety, order and discipline. 

6. Attend school regularly

7. Meet school standards for dress. 

8. Respect the property of others, including school property and facilities. 

9. Refrain from cheating or plagiarizing the work of others. 

10. Refrain from vulgarity, profanity, obscenity, lewdness, and indecency

Per RSU5 School Board Policy JK disciplinary action may be taken against students who violate policies, rules, or laws, and/or whose conduct directly interferes with the operations, discipline or general welfare of the school.

The table below outlines examples of behavior that fall short of expectations along with steps taken to address them (see relevant sections for more information). Steps often center on repairing harm and strengthening relationships. Our hope is that this approach builds belonging and investment for every student and staff member, even after an incident occurs. Administration reserves the discretion to address behaviors as they deem appropriate.

Students required to stay after school are given 24 hours notice to arrange transportation. Detention rules:

• Detention notifications are emailed from the main office.
• Check in at the main office for the location of detention.
• Be seated by 2:30 PM: late arrivals are not admitted.
• Bring study materials.
• Detention ends at 3:30 PM: leave only when dismissed by supervising staff.
• Personal electronic devices are placed in the classroom cell phone locker. 
• Laptops for school assignments only.

Students must serve detention on the date assigned. If students have a conflict, the parent/guardian must contact the main office by noon on the detention day to request a reschedule. Detentions may be rescheduled once. Failure to follow this procedure may result in additional detentions, in-school or out-of-school suspension, loss of open campus privileges, probation from dances and field trips, and restricted participation in athletic events.

Administration may suspend students for up to 10 school days per violation (in-school or out-of-school). A suspension does not begin until the school has communicated with the student and parent/guardian. Key points:

• Holidays and weekends during a suspension are not counted as suspended days.
• Suspended students must take materials home and contact teachers for assignments.
• A reentry meeting may be required before return; parent/guardian attendance may be required.
• Suspended students may not participate in or attend any school activity during the suspension period.
• In-school suspension is served in the main office; technology use requires staff permission.

Students may be held accountable for off-campus behavior when it causes a substantial disruption to school safety or welfare, or when the administration reasonably believes such a disruption would occur. Examples include assault or criminal acts, attending events where drugs or alcohol are present, or making threatening or harassing statements about students or staff on social media. Local authorities will be notified before any disciplinary consequence is assigned.

FHS uses video surveillance cameras to maintain a safe and orderly school environment.

Students’ MLTI devices, carrying cases, and chargers are state property registered to FHS and assigned to students for four years or until graduation. Do not exchange devices — students are responsible for the specific device assigned to students (identified by the asset number on the back).

Students are responsible for keeping their device in the smart cover at all times, keeping it fully charged, and transporting it in the provided case. Lost or damaged items are their financial responsibility.

RSU5 Acceptable Use Policy (IJNDB, IJNDB-R, IJNDB-E) applies at all times, on and off school property. Students should bring their device to school daily. Report technical issues or damage to the FHS Helpdesk in room 705 immediately.

School-issued devices are for educational use only. Incidental personal use is allowed, but if it becomes a distraction, access will be limited.

Examples of unacceptable uses that are expressly prohibited include, but are not limited to:

• Accessing or posting inappropriate materials
• Illegal activities
• Violating copyrights
• Harassment
• Plagiarism
• Copying software
• Non-school related uses
• Misuse of passwords/unauthorized access
• Malicious use/vandalism
• Unauthorized access to virtual private networks (VPN).

Misuse, leaving devices unattended, or storing inappropriate material will result in loss of electronic privileges. Minor offenses result in temporary loss; serious offenses may result in permanent loss, suspension, referral to the Board, and police notification.

The Protection Plan is available to all families in grades 6–12 and provides assistance when non-warranted damage occurs. Details are available from the main office and on the district website. The cost is $25 annually, and scholarships are available through the main office. Electronic device debts from the prior year must be resolved before the start of the next school year.

If students become too ill to be in class, report immediately to the school nurse or main office. Students will be dismissed from school only after a designated adult from the Emergency Form has been contacted. If no adult can be reached, the nurse will provide care and supervision.

Report all accidents or injuries immediately to the teacher, supervisor, or coach in charge so that proper documentation and medical attention can be provided.

Students under quarantine are excluded from school and school activities. See RSU5 Policy JLCC for specific guidelines.

Maine Law requires all students to provide a certificate of immunization (or evidence of immunity) against polio, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles, varicella, mumps, and rubella upon enrollment. Contact the school nurse for guidance on exemptions. See RSU5 Policy JLCB)

Fire Drills

State law requires that all schools practice fire drills throughout the academic year. When the fire alarm goes off at FHS, all staff and students must vacate the building in a quiet and orderly fashion. Directions for evacuations are posted in each room and office and students must follow the directions of staff. Students assemble with their Advisory group in the staff parking lot. No person may re-enter the building after a drill until an administrator gives approval for re-entry. Please note, setting off a false alarm is a violation of federal and state laws and will be reported to those agencies as well as school officials for disciplinary action.

ALICE

Each year, Freeport High School provides students and staff with training on A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate), a national best-practice safety framework used by schools across the country to respond to intruders in the building. Like fire drills, A.L.I.C.E. training is part of our regular safety routines, giving students and staff clear options to respond confidently in a variety of situations.

All students participating in interscholastic athletics must provide a signed Physician's Statement confirming they are physically and mentally fit to compete. Students entering grades 6 and 9 must provide evidence of a complete physical exam prior to admission. Contact the school if religious or financial considerations prevent students from meeting this requirement.

No student may try out, practice, receive equipment, or compete until all required forms have been completed and submitted to the Director of Athletics.

Athletes must attend school on the day of any game or practice to participate. A late arrival due to a medical/dental appointment may be waived. If students are absent on the day of a scheduled contest, prior approval from the Athletic Administrator or Principal is required to participate. Athletes are expected to be in school the day after a game.

Students must remain academically eligible to participate in all co-curricular activities. Refer to the Athletic Handbook for specific eligibility requirements.

Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, students with identified disabilities are entitled to a range of educational services and accommodations. Contact the Office of Instructional Support (865-0928 x28), the Principal (865-4706 x7300), or Guidance (865-4706 x7800) for more information.

Parents may review their student's educational records within 45 days of a written request to the principal or Guidance Office. For IEP or due process matters, the school must respond within five school days. Parents are notified annually of their FERPA rights. See RSU5 Policy JRA-E.

A custodial parent/guardian who wishes the school to comply with a court order restricting access to their child must provide a certified copy of that order to the school.

RSU5 designates the following as directory information: student name, grade level, participation in recognized activities and sports, height and weight of student athletes, dates of school attendance, honors and awards, and photos/videos of participation in school activities open to the public (excluding internet publication).

Under the No Child Left Behind Act, RSU5 must release student names, addresses, and phone numbers to military recruiters and institutions of higher education upon request. Parents have the right to opt out of this release: JRA-E2. RSU5 may also disclose directory information generally unless parents have submitted a timely written refusal.
