The English department fosters the development of skills in reading, writing, language, speaking and listening, and the research process. Throughout the four years, students will read a variety of texts such as classic and contemporary literature, poetry, drama, essays, articles, podcasts, documentaries, and more from a range of time periods and perspectives. Our goal is to hone competence in ELA skills, develop effective communicators, foster creativity, and encourage individual excellence. We do this through an emphasis on the process as well as the product by offering student choice, providing opportunities to participate in Literature Circles and Socratic Seminars, and emphasizing engagement and relevance of what we do in the classroom.
