As many of you may know, the State of Maine has directed all school districts to assume responsibility for identifying and providing a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to children ages 3–5 with disabilities. This responsibility, previously held by Child Development Services (CDS), must be fully in place no later than July 1, 2028. While that date may seem far off, the change is significant and may ultimately affect how we use our facilities, allocate financial resources, hire and deploy staff, and plan for the long-term configuration of our district.
A webpage has been set up to keep the community informed. The “Early Childhood Planning (CDS)” page can be found under the “Quick Links” tab above. Information will be added to this page as new information emerges.
