In The Classrooms
Mr. Nolan's Journalism 2 class recently viewed the film "The China Question." The documentary explores the rise of China as a world economic power and the implications of that ascent for average individuals in both urban China and in small town America. The class then met with the film's director, Brook Silva-Braga, via Skype. Students learned about the storytelling skills required to bring narrative form to an incredibly complex and layered topic. In addition, Silva-Braga discussed technical aspects such as lining up interviews with renowned economists and Chinese factory owners and workers, camera specifications, financing the film, and the distribution process. Students will have the opportunity to create their own short documentary films during the course of the spring semester. See more
