Experiential Learning at FHS

Students in Environmental Science classes established permanent FIG (forest inventory growth) plots in the L.L.Bean forest off of Desert Road in 2013. The data collected from these sites will be used by the L.L.Bean forester, Steve Gettle, to estimate the health and the value of a large plot of forested land.  This service learning project was possible with the partnership of L.L.Bean, forester,Steve Gettle, Maine State forester, Shane Duigan, Project Learning Tree Coordinator, Pat Maloney.  Prior to the field work, they came and met with the students to educate students about LL Bean's property, forestry practices, and Project Learning Tree.

The two permanent FIG plots were marked and recorded by GPS.

November/December Highlights!

The Interact Club hosted its 2nd Annual Moonlight Madness 1 mile Run/Walk event on Thanksgiving at 11:45pm.  The participants were led by Santa on his Harley and the course took them through downtown Freeport.  Net proceeds went to Freeport Community Service Fuel Assistance Fund. $1300 was raised.  FHS students did a great job organizing the event, securing donations from local businesses and showing up to make the event successful, despite the inclement weather and power outages.
